This project began with a photograph of an urban pathway. The particular photograph was taken in Vienna in the 1940's. Using Adobe Illustrator, the photograph was used as a guide to draw a scene of a lone figure walking down a street deserted except for a single car coming towards her. The image intrigued me with the implicit mystery of the reasons for the nighttime travels of the woman and the automobile.

wpa inspired poster
The Federal Art Project was the visual arts arm of the New Deal Federal One program. FAP artists created posters, murals and paintings, some of which stand among the most significant pieces of public art in the country. FAP's primary goals were to employ out-of-work artists and to provide art for non-federal government buildings: schools, hospitals, libraries, etc. The "Wild Life" poster was created in this program. It inspired "Life Can Be Scary" which I did in the Visual Communication II class.
